The best diet for overall health and weight management

Making food choices which help us move toward healthy digestion, decreased inflammation and healing can’t be pinpointed to a specific “diet”, “protocol” or “regimen”.  No wonder navigate everyone’s expertise and opinions feels like work.

A simple google search tells us that the best diet is vegan or vegetarian or mediterranean or carnivore or keto or paleo and none of them are right or wrong.

reating labels, parameters and categories like these opens the door to confusion and for most of us, unnecessarily complicates what should feel natural, simple and intuitive AND fun.

For those trying to enrich their lifestyle choices, let’s consider that there really may be a straight shooting, unambiguous arrow when it comes to “diet” choices.

If you’re treading water with trying to figure out how to eat and you’re just getting more confused, I propose giving yourself the grace of stopping all regimented patterns and simply returning to eating real food with as much variety as possible.

Digestion improves and inflammation goes down when we have certainty and when we’re calm.  We can bring more calm and certainty about our food choices in the next few weeks with the following tips:

-Seek out organic produce

-Try to stick to grass fed meats and dairy.

-Stay away from processed and packaged foods.

-With beans and grains, make sure you seek out a wide variety.  Try to rethink the staples of rice and black beans and expand to barley, kidney beans, black eyed peas, quinoa, and emmer.

-Introduce some of the superfoods like blueberries, cacao nibs, honey in place of white sugar, bee pollen, chia seeds, powdered seaweeds, Ceylon cinnamon and hemp.

-Use more fresh, first cold pressed olive oil, grass fed butter, coconut oil and tallow instead of any other oils.

-Drink water (especially first thing in the morning).

In the coming months, we’ll discuss how to make all of these foods even more digestible.  We’ll talk about how to combine them and how to prepare them so that they become even more healing and nutritious.  For now though, unless you feel great and happy about what you’re doing, I suggest simply trying to stick to these tips and see how you feel.

See if it’s sustainable for you.  Your own intuition is correct 100% of the time.
